Welcome to Vatousa

THE TRADITIONAL LESVOS ISLAND

Vatousa or Vatoussa is a village of Lesvos and one of the five traditional settlements of the island, characterized by the Ministry of Culture. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 574 inhabitants, of which 24 of the settlement of Remas (Rhema), which is part of it, have been counted. Together with the village of Reuma, it is a municipal district of the new municipality of West Lesvos, located on the north-western side of the island and borders with Sterounda, Skalochori and Antissa.

The visitor, from the very first moment, can admire the beautiful cobbled streets, the beautifully architectural houses, all stone-built with tiled roofs, elements that preserve the traditional colour of the village, which is why the inhabitants observe with religious devotion all the regulations governing the need to preserve this colour. At the same time, the greenery, which embraces the village and springs out of every courtyard, is taken care of in order to harmonize in the most beautiful way with its traditional character.
